Goats Milk & The Paleo Diet
The Good..The “BAAAA”d and the Ugly…
A question came in this week that I thought would benefit us all so I am responding to it publicly..”Where does goats milk fit into the paleo diet plan?”

Many people believe dairy to be a grey zone on the Paleo Diet. In the most strictest sense dairy was never consumed in the paleolithic era other than breast milk.
Wait! before we throw the cow out with the cow’s milk..Remember ,moderation in all things..Just because it wasn’t used during the paleolithic era doesn’t make it taboo but studies and life experience has showed us that following the paleo guidelines is wisest for your body. Consuming Dairy would be no exception to that.
There is plenty of good things to be said regarding dairy and it is certainly believed that certain dairy products are more superior than others.
One of the first sources of a babies nourishment comes through milk that is packed express with essential fatty acids, proteins, saturated fats, nutrients carbs and nutrients. Yes, milk is insulin promoting and thus a good choice for someone who isn’t suffering from an autoimmune, acne or insulin instability as an option for gaining weight.
Lactose is not well tolerated by most people and studies have shown that our pancreas produces lactase, the lactose digestive enzyme until the age of two to cover the time when we need it the most.
The good..
Dairy is an awesome way to include beneficial bacteria into your body along with cheese and kefirs. I believe yogurt , especially greek yogurt, to be one of the best choices to make regarding dairy should you decide to include dairy in your diet..Hard cheese yogurt and kefir that have fermented long enough to zap all the sugars shouldn’t have any lactose left so if you are lactose intolerant this would be good news for you. (Be careful though as even with no present lactose the dairy will still have the insulin promoting effect.)
Goats milk is an excellent option if you feel the need to include dairy in your Paleo program. I had a child who was not gaining weight on breast milk and even though it went against my natural inclinations at that time I did try formula for a very short season. This was the Colic season and formula set this child’s digestive system in a chaotic frenzy..What to do? Goats Milk to the rescue. He thrived. We were fortunate enough ot have a goat farm nearby and we got raw fresh goats milk every few days. That son began to thrive an drain weight steadily. Today he is still privy to having a great metabolism..
SO …What about goats milk and those drinking it? It is said due to the form of that it causes less or no problems in those who do not tolerate cow’s milk.
Then there is the bad and the ugly…Some have said there is a relation between Croons Disease and dairy and even claims that acne and cancer cells develop far more quickly with dairy in your diet. . Dairy is high in carbs and can contribute to problems related to weight gain and insulin control.
So ..goats milk and where it fits in the plan..is it good, is it bad or is it ugly?..
You decide..
Introduce fresh raw goats milk to your system and then become an observer of self. Your body will talk.. You just have to listen.
The Paleo Diet like any healthy lifestyle should be a vehicle to aid you on your life sustaining journey it is’t just meant to control you and hold you back from this and from that. It simply gives you wise guidelines to follow and you like many others on this journey can see what works best for you.
I hope this helps and would love to hear about your decision and your findings..Thanks for asking..xo
